Digital Exam Formats at the Faculty of Human Sciences
The Media Network advises faculty members in the Faculty of Human Sciences on digital exam formats using multiple-choice questions. Our own service includes the planning, administration, and grading of digital scan exams. For other formats (e-exams in the EPC, remote exams), we are happy to refer you to the appropriate departments.

Digital scanned exams (pen & paper) – our offering at the HF
Highly recommended for courses with more than 100 participants where central exam facilities are insufficient. The service is available for a minimum of 20 participants.
Students mark their answers on paper—in any suitable lecture hall or seminar room at the HF. Grading is done entirely digitally. Scanned exams can be arranged on short notice—often a consultation via Zoom or phone is all that’s needed.

Additional digital exam formats – CCE offerings
The Competence Center for E-Learning (CCE) at the University of Cologne offers centralized support for:
- E-exams in the Electronic Examination Center (EPC)—several rooms with over 200 seats in the Philosophikum
- Remote exams (EA-Flex) – unsupervised exams from home: manage.eaflex.uni-koeln.de

Requests for services should be submitted to the CCE at the beginning of the lecture semester.

Our exam rooms and pools
The Media Network provides its own exam rooms with 24 exam PCs upon request. The devices are securely integrated into the UKLAN and registered as verified workstations in ILIAS. Redundant stations ensure operation even in the event of individual device failures.
Our rooms are also suitable for formative assessments, learning progress evaluations, and remote exams that require a stable on-site PC workstation.
