Center for Intercultural Studies

The Research Center for Intercultural Studies (FiSt) was established in 1996 at the former Faculty of Education (now the Faculty of Human Sciences) at the University of Cologne. Its establishment was a response to new societal challenges that emerged in the wake of increasing mobility, migration, and the diversification of society in the context of advanced globalization. These developments have led, in a very short time, to a lasting transformation of society and to new conditions in urban coexistence as well as in a wide variety of fields of educational practice.
