Since 2021, our department has been collaborating with Special Olympics NRW. As part of this partnership, students have already attended several state-level competitions and provided volunteer support during courses or as part of their thesis projects. Additionally, in 2023, we were on-site at the World Games in Berlin with a group of students and also served as volunteers there. 

This partnership not only enables students to volunteer at Special Olympics events—thereby helping ensure their success—but also adds value to their academic education! For example, in the summer semester of 2024, 10 students wrote their theses as part of the research group “Subjective Perspectives on Sports for People with Intellectual Disabilities” and, in this context, volunteered at the state games in Münster.
