In the pilot project “Ausbildung mittendrin,” the parents’ association mittendrin e.V., in cooperation with ProjektRouter gGmbH, supports young people with intellectual disabilities on their path into and through a dual vocational training program. Since October 2023, the project has been supported by students from the University of Cologne.

As part of a teaching practicum in the bachelor’s program in Special Education with a focus on intellectual development, students design theoretically grounded educational programs on various topics (digital work and communication, reading, math, independence in daily life and work, professionalism and social behavior in vocational training, relaxation, fitness and self-confidence, learning foreign languages, politics). The educational programs are developed didactically by the students and then implemented in collaboration with the participants of the “Ausbildung mittendrin” project to complement their training or pre-training measures.
