Computer mit StudiOS

No liability. No warranty.

Installation

To install, you must download our ISO file and install it on a USB flash drive.

When starting the computer, the USB drive must be selected as the “Boot Device,” usually in the device’s BIOS. “Secure Boot,” which prevents the installation of unknown operating systems, must be disabled in the computer’s BIOS.

The installer on the USB drive automates all steps for installing the operating system. To start the installation, simply click the “Install” button.

All existing data (files, programs, and the operating system) will be lost during the reinstallation of the computer; therefore, it is essential to perform a comprehensive data backup to an external storage device (USB drive, external hard drive, cloud storage, etc.) before installation.

After the installation starts, the installer automatically selects the appropriate hard drive: If an SSD is installed, it is the first choice; otherwise, the largest hard drive is selected.

A stable internet connection is required for the installation, preferably via an Ethernet cable. If using Wi-Fi, please note that the installer uses the US keyboard layout when entering the Wi-Fi password.

The ISO can be downloaded here on the university network.

First Steps

After installation and before logging in for the first time, you must change the initial password “uni4711” using the standard German keyboard layout. You must enter the initial password twice, followed by a new password of your choice. The information text next to the input field indicates whether the initial or new password is required.

On the desktop, you will find a help document, a collection of links, and the eduroam setup
