How is the module structured?

The internship module in the B.A. Music Mediation program consists of the following elements:
  • Attendance at a preparatory session, in which students receive an overview of the various fields of action and activity in music education as well as potential institutions for the internship (1 CP)
  • Mandatory internship (3 credits)
  • Attendance at a follow-up session in which practical experiences in the various fields of activity are reflected upon (2 credits)

How many hours must the internship comprise?

  • The internship comprises 90 hours (3 CP), the completion of which must be confirmed by the internship institution.
  • It is recommended that you voluntarily complete an internship with a greater number of hours or additional internships at other institutions. However, these hours cannot be credited toward your degree.

At which institutions can the internship be completed?

  • You may complete your internship in any field of activity that has a clear connection to Music Mediation and the module description.
  • The focus you choose (pedagogical, artistic, managerial, journalistic) is up to you.

Can I have internships I’ve already completed recognized?

  • It is possible to have activities or internships already completed prior to the ... or possibly even during the ... degree program recognized.
  • These must meet the requirements of an internship in the B.A. Music Mediation program in terms of content and scope, which must be verified by official documentation (e.g., a work certificate) in the original.
  • It is important that you have not already had this activity recognized as an internship in your other major.
  • However, we would like to encourage you to take advantage of the internship as an opportunity to further develop your employability and expand your network.

Is it possible to complete the internship abroad?

Is the internship paid?

  • Mandatory internships in an academic context are not subject to a requirement for remuneration!
  • You can find more information here

Help with finding an internship

How to find an internship:

Recognition of a previously completed internship/job

If you completed an internship or work experience before starting your studies and would like to have it recognized, please proceed as follows:
  • Step 1: Upload your documentation regarding the completed internship or work experience (to be issued by your internship or employer) to the "Recognition of Work Experience" tool on ILIAS.
The documentation must clearly indicate both the scope of work and the number of hours worked. A template for an employer’s certificate can be found here

  • Step 2: The module coordinator will review the equivalence of the activity and, upon successful review, issue a certificate recognizing the activity as an internship in the AM 4 module.
