Supervision of Bachelor's and Master's theses
Dear students,
At our department you have the opportunity to have your thesis supervised by
Dr. Thamar Klein
We are committed to providing you with careful and thorough supervision and we look forward to receiving your inquiries. Should you wish to have your work overseen by one of our scientists, please take the following points into consideration: Due to limited capacity, it is imperative that registrations are made well in advance. It is advisable to plan at least six to nine months in advance. It is imperative that you are aware of the deadlines set by the ZfL, the start of your teaching internship (Referendariat) or Master's program, and any other deadlines that may be of consequence to you. Also bear in mind that the development of a research question and the composition of an empirical paper can be a time-consuming process that extends beyond the anticipated timeframe.
In your final thesis, you should independently develop a topic of your own choosing. Dedicate sufficient time to the thoughtful development of your topic, the formulation of a research question, and the creation of a concise synopsis, which you should bring to our consultation hours. For the initial consultation, we also need a draft of the title, an outline, and an initial list of references.
Ascertain whether we are the appropriate interlocutors from both a thematic and methodological perspective. Our focus is on gender and queer studies, as well as various social science topics. We are happy to supervise empirical work that uses qualitative research methods. For a more comprehensive overview of these subjects, please refer to the individual department staff pages, where a more detailed exposition awaits. The academic supervision of your thesis is conducted by Thamar Klein and Claudia Nikodem through a weekly colloquium.
We recommend that you attend our courses so that you and we can find out whether the collaboration can be successful both in terms of content and on a personal level. You should have attended at least one seminar, a practical project, or a lecture with your desired supervisor. Then register for a consultation hour, where we can discuss everything else.
Formalities regarding written work

- The work to be handed in is to be submitted both as pdf- and word-file. Please create a pdf-file and make sure the single file includes all documents to be handed in.
The following agreement exists regarding the submission of written work in the social sciences:
