Welcome to the social sciences at the Faculty of Human Sciences

Our social science courses are intended for   

  • the subjects economics-politics ("Haupt-, Real-, Sekundar-, Gesamtschule"), economics-politics/social sciences ("Gymnasium"), politics ("Berufskolleg") 
  • the learning area natural and social sciences ("Grundschulen"; "Sonderpädagogische Förderung") and educational Sciences ("Bildungswissenschaften")
  • Bachelor Education Sciences, Master Intercultural Communication and Education, Master in Gender and Queer Studies

The social science courses aim to analyze and reflect on society, politics and the economy using social science theories and methods, as well as to describe social, economic and political problems, causes and design options, to understand and explain their causes and their design options, also with regard to their consequences and conflicting goals to be able to assess. The range of social science courses is based on the social science foundations in sociology, political science and economics and enables to analyze important social challenges in the knowledge of the dynamics and complexity of modern societies in a problem-oriented manner and to reflect on them in a design-oriented manner. This requires an understanding of the basics of empirical social sciences as the professional knowledge of social scientists and for the professional knowledge of future social science educators an understanding of the didactics of the social sciences.
