Information on changes to the B.A. in Education (LA Gym/Ge) course

Starting in the 2022/23 winter semester

 

Here you will find information and important documents regarding changes to the B.A. in Education (LA Gym/Ge) program for the 2022/23 winter semester.

Starting in the Winter Semester 2022/23, the University of Cologne’s Joint Examination Regulations for the Bachelor of Arts in Teaching at Gymnasia and Comprehensive Schools, dated February 26, 2016, will be amended. This will also entail a few minor changes to the B.A. Pedagogy program. The course content will remain the same.

To ensure a smooth transition, all students currently enrolled in the B.A. Pedagogy program will be transferred to the new examination regulations by the Student Affairs Office for the 2022/23 winter semester (expected in October/November 2022).

This transition affects all students in the B.A. in Education program who will NOT have fully completed their studies by the end of the 2022 summer semester.

The transfer will take place with your current semester number remaining unchanged. Your previous academic achievements in the B.A. in Education program will be recognized, so you will not be at a disadvantage.

 

What’s new?

The changes to the B.A. in Education program most frequently affect the major modules. All changes can be found in the summary of changes below.

We would like to provide you with a brief overview of the most significant changes below:

- Course: Education

  • In the advanced module AM 3 "Education and Upbringing under Conditions of Heterogeneity," the final module exam has been changed from "presentation with written paper" to "term paper."
  • In Specialization Module 2a/b, the title has been changed from "Elementary Didactics in Early Childhood Education" to "Fundamentals and Concepts of Early Childhood Education, Upbringing, and Care."
  • Specialization modules that previously required two examination components have been restructured so that, starting in the Winter/Spring semester 2022/23, only one final module exam will need to be taken. This affects specialization modules SM 5, SM 7, and SM 8.
  • Starting in the winter semester 2022/23, attendance is mandatory (TP) for the seminars in focus module SM 7.

Course Registration for the Winter Semester 22/23

When registering for courses for the Winter Semester 2022/23, you will still be navigating KLIPS using the old examination regulations and module structure. The courses will then be transferred to the new module structure and in accordance with the new examination regulations AFTER the start of the lecture period. You register for courses by referring to the old module assignments and course numbers and titles designated for your semester in the Winter Semester 2022/23.

Transfer of Your Academic Records to the New Examination Regulations

Your grades will be transferred to the new examination regulations by the Office of Academic Records for Educational Sciences and the SSC Pedagogy starting in November 2022. The old transcripts will be archived. No grades will be lost. The transfer will take place automatically. The rules for transferring your grades to the new examination regulations in the subject area of Pedagogy (LA Gym/Ge) can be found here:

Please refrain from inquiring about the status of your credit transfer before December 2022!
