Introduction of the
Economics and Politics (HRSGe, Sopäd) and
Economics and Politics/Social Sciences (GymGe) degree
programs starting in the 2022/23 winter semester
Background
Many of you have closely followed the discussions regarding the renaming of the subject Social Sciences to Economics and Politics in recent years. With the amendment to the Teacher Education Admission Ordinance in 2021, the renaming of the school subject now necessitates a renaming or re-profiling of the degree program.
Due to the new legal requirements, starting in the winter semester 2022/23, the subject Social Sciences can only be studied as “Economics and Politics” (HRSGe; Sopäd) and “Economics and Politics/Social Sciences” (GymGe). The module handbooks and examination regulations for the study of the social science subjects Economics-Politics (HRSGe; Sopäd), Economics-Politics/Social Sciences (GymGe), and also for Politics (BK) have been revised. This clearly demonstrates that you have thoroughly studied all three indispensable components: sociology, political science, and economics. The Economics-Politics and Economics-Politics/Social Sciences programs will continue to provide you with a solid and broad education in the social sciences.
These changes will not result in any disadvantages for you in your studies.
Procedure
To ensure a smooth transition, all students currently enrolled in the Social Sciences program (GymGe, HRSGe, and Sopäd) will be transferred to the new Economics and Politics programs by the Student Affairs Office for the Winter/Spring 2022–2023 semester.
This transfer affects all students in the Social Sciences program who will NOT have fully completed their studies by the end of the 2022 summer semester.
A prerequisite for transfer to the Economics and Politics program is your re-registration for the winter semester. The re-registration period begins on June 1 and ends on July 15. To ensure a smooth transition and course registration during the first registration phase, we recommend that you re-register as early as possible and no later than June 30.
While re-registration can generally be completed by July 15, submitting course requests during the first registration phase (July 13–August 9) is only possible if you are enrolled in the Economics and Politics program for the winter semester in KLIPS.
Please note: For administrative reasons, the new program may already appear in your student account in KLIPS before you have completed re-registration. However, it will only be activated after re-registration is complete (i.e., after payment of the semester fee).
The transfer will be processed while continuing your current semester. Your previous academic achievements in the Social Sciences program will be recognized, so you will not be at a disadvantage.
Since you are transferring to a new major, KLIPS will automatically prompt you to activate your KLIPS account with a PIN number. However, this procedure is only necessary for first-time enrollment at the UzK. You can therefore ignore this prompt and continue to use your existing KLIPS account.
Information for Bachelor’s students:If you wish to apply for a master’s program for the 2022/23 winter semester, all credits earned in Social Sciences will be taken into account for your application. |

Course Registration for the Winter Semester 22/23
For the Winter Semester 22/23, you will no longer register for courses through the Social Sciences program, but rather through the Economics and Politics (HRSGe, Sopäd) or Economics and Politics/Social Sciences (GymGe) programs. You can find the new program structure in the documents below (Module Handbook, Rules for the Recognition of Academic Achievements). We recommend the following procedure:
- Generate a current Transcript of Records for the Social Sciences program in KLIPS (instructions).
- Print the Personal Study Plan document (see below) for your new Economics and Politics or Economics and Politics/Social Sciences program.
- Open the document “Rules for Recognition” for your program.
- In the Personal Study Plan document, enter which credits from the new curriculum are transferred or recognized through the migration.
- Any modules that remain open in your Personal Study Plan must be completed later in your studies.
For the Economics and Politics or Economics and Politics/Social Sciences program, no courses will be displayed in the study tree for the time being. As a result, your course overview for the new program will initially contain no information. Only after the start of the winter semester will we transfer and recognize the courses you have completed so far into the new program. We will inform you again in advance about this process.
