New Examination Regulations
for the Subject of Politics (BK)
for the Winter Semester 2022/23

Background

As part of the renaming of the subject Social Sciences to Economics and Politics for the winter semester 2022/23, the curriculum for the social science subjects Politics (BK), Economics and Politics (HRSGe; Sopäd), and Economics and Politics/Social Sciences (GymGe) has been revised.

Unlike the subject Social Sciences, there will be no change to the program name for the subject Politics in the Teacher Education Program for Vocational Colleges. However, the study regulations for the subject Politics (BK) will change starting in the winter semester 22/23. The module handbooks and examination regulations have been revised. Starting in the winter semester 22/23, the subject of Politics at the UzK can only be studied in accordance with the new version of the examination regulations.

These changes will not result in any disadvantages for you during your studies.

Procedure

To ensure a smooth transition in your studies, all students currently enrolled in the Politics (BK) program will be transferred to the new study regulations by the Student Affairs Office for the Winter Semester 22/23.

This transfer affects all students in the Politics program who will NOT complete their studies in Politics by the end of the 2022 summer semester and who re-enroll for the winter semester by the deadline of July 15.

Please notify us by email at ssc-sowi@uni-koeln.de by July 15 if you plan to complete your studies in the Politics major in the summer semester of 2022 (in this case, you will complete the major under the previous examination regulations—the completion of the entire degree program does not have to take place in the summer semester).

The transfer will be processed while maintaining your current semester status. Your previous academic achievements in Political Science will be recognized, so you will not be at a disadvantage.

We will wait until the re-registration deadline and Master’s application deadline on July 15 to process the transfer. As a result, you will be able to use the first course registration phase for winter semester courses with a slight delay, starting only on July 20, 2022.

Please note: Due to the transition to the new examination regulations, not all of your previously earned credits will initially be displayed correctly in KLIPS. The rules for the recognition of academic achievements will inform you about which modules of the new curriculum your previously earned coursework and exam credits will be recognized for. We will process the recognition of your academic achievements as soon as possible after your transition to the 2022 examination regulations, likely by August 5. Please refrain from inquiring about the status of the academic data migration during this period.

IMPORTANT: By July 17, 2022, at the latest, generate a current Transcript of Records for your program in KLIPS and save it for your own records.

Information Session

At an information session on July 12 at 6:00 PM, we will present the new curriculum as well as the rules for the recognition of your previously completed coursework within the new curriculum. During this session, we will also be able to address questions regarding course registration. The information session will take place virtually via Zoom:

Course Registration for the Winter Semester 22/23

For the Winter Semester 22/23, you will register for courses under the new curriculum. You can find the new program structure in the documents below (Module Handbook, Rules for the Recognition of Academic Achievements). We recommend the following procedure:

  • Generate a current Transcript of Records for the Political Science program in KLIPS (instructions).
  • Print the Personal Study Plan document (see below) for the new examination regulations (PO 2022).
  • Open the document “Rules for Recognition” for your degree program.
  • In the Personal Study Plan document, enter which courses in the new curriculum will be transferred or recognized through the migration process.
  • Any modules or courses that remain open in your Personal Study Plan must be completed during the remainder of your studies.

We recommend filling out the Personal Study Plan document to assist you with course registration in KLIPS. However, you do not need to submit this document to us or file an application for the transfer of your credits.
