Profile
Questions of individual and societal diversity as well as social inequalities as historically specific privileges and/or disadvantages of socially produced groups are core subjects of the educational and social sciences.
In this research area, different perspectives of diversity and social inequalities are negotiated both systematically and historically, for example:
- Intersectional entanglements,
- interactions and productions of difference (un/doing difference),
- heterogeneity and situated (knowledge) practices.
Basic questions, such as the relationship between inclusion and exclusion, the analysis of institutional action and processes and conditions of normalisation , global and local productions of categories of difference are explored, and a variety of methodological approaches of qualitative research (e.g. ethnographies and biographical research) as well as hermeneutics, phenomenology and quantitative research are applied.
The investigations serve the analysis of social conflicts and concomitant phenomena of social, gendered and ethnicizing attributions of difference and placement. They explore the significance of individualization and globalization for educational theoretical analyses, for educational policy and pedagogical action, and question notions of normality in education, society and education.
