2025 Website Relaunch for the Faculty of Human Sciences
The Media Network has updated the Faculty of Human Sciences’ website to the new 2025 design. The update is part of a Rectorate project to modernize and standardize the University of Cologne’s websites.
As part of the relaunch, the Media Network not only implemented the new design technically but also fully migrated and adapted all existing content. In total, approximately 4,000 web pages were transferred to the new system in terms of both content and structure.
The previous CMS will be taken offline in a subsequent step and replaced with a modern system. Until we have activated the new system for you, you can continue to work with the old system.

Overview of key new features
- Web pages will be displayed in a responsive layout on all screen sizes. The new web design enables better display on desktop computers, tablets, and smartphones.
- A variety of new elements and functions will soon be available for presenting content.
- The previous sidebar with navigation has been removed.
- Section navigation is now accessible via a drop-down menu.
- In addition, the section navigation is displayed again at the bottom of the page in the form of cards.

- Replacement and optimization of the backend for editorial management
- Programming of a central search engine for the websites
- Implementation of translation functions
Notes on staff photos
Please note that staff photos that do not conform to the specified format of 240 × 280 pixels cannot be displayed correctly in the new design and must therefore be updated. This can be done by uploading them to the CMS and selecting the “240x280” format. Our photo production team will be happy to create professional and suitable portrait photos for this purpose. We have provided details and further information for you below.
Accessibility and Responsiveness
Over the next few days, we will adapt content that is not accessible or does not function properly on various devices, such as smartphones. This may affect your web pages, for example, if you have formatted content using tables for layout purposes. This may constitute a barrier.

Staff Photos & Photo Collages
The Media Production photo service offers members of the Faculty of Human Sciences the opportunity to have staff photos taken for the website in our photo studio. The goal of the staff photos is to give the new UzK website a consistent look for the Faculty of Human Sciences and its departments as well. Therefore, we ask that you schedule group appointments for departments via email so that individual portraits can be taken. Please contact us via email (fotoproduktion.hf@uni-koeln.de) to schedule a group appointment for your department.
You can book individual appointments yourself via our Simren booking portal. To do so, please reserve a 15-minute time slot at the photo studio. We currently offer individual appointments on Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. When booking, please include your name and the department you belong to in the description. In addition, we will offer “Open Door” sessions to provide another opportunity for the timely creation of new staff photos.
On February 24, 2026, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., members of the Faculty of Human Sciences can have individual portraits taken EVEN WITHOUT AN APPOINTMENT. However, there may be short wait times on-site.
In addition to individual portraits, we create photo collages upon request that combine multiple portraits into a team photo. This way, you’ll receive not only your individual photos but also a photo collage of the entire staff, which can be updated regularly.
Our photo studio is located at Frangenheimstr. 4, Building 213, Room 0.23.
