Software Installation by Program Group

The software listed below is currently installed on the pool PCs.

The software is the result of an editorial preselection process and is tailored to current teaching and research needs.

All software is organized into functional groups by topic to facilitate quick navigation. The shortcuts on our computers’ desktops exactly reflect these groups. This also makes it possible to get an overview of different program versions and discover new, useful tools.

Open Source LogoThe abbreviation (OS) in the list below stands for Open Source. These tools are generally freely available to everyone and can, for example, be downloaded free of charge by students for seminar-related homework outside our computer labs.

According to recent studies (see, for example, the European Commission’s 2021 Open Source Study or recent Harvard research from 2024), and recommendations from working groups, is particularly well-suited for production, as it enables the cost-effective editing or creation of content, strengthens the institutional digital sovereignty of educational institutions, and is freely available to everyone as a tool.

This applies in particular to the production of free educational materials!

Open Educational Resources (OER; see the OERINFORM project’s YouTube channel) refer to free learning and teaching materials that are licensed under an open license such as “Creative Commons” or the GNU General Public License. Content with such a license can generally be used, redistributed, and edited without legal concerns.
