The Alexianer Institute for Psychotraumatology is a leader in international research projects.

 

The institute researches effective treatment methods and preventive measures for trauma-related disorders, focusing on neurobiological research, psychotherapy research, and the connection between migration and trauma. Traumas caused by migration, war, flight, or sexual violence pose particular challenges, especially due to language and cultural barriers.

 

The EUNAD-IP project:

In addition, the institute has developed inclusive disaster management for people with disabilities in the EU-funded EUNAD-IP project, in accordance with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

 

The Europe-wide expert network (EUTOPA):

The institute was involved in setting up a Europe-wide expert network (EUTOPA) to develop common standards in psychosocial aftercare following disasters, as well as in a project to prevent long-term psychological consequences for victims of terrorist attacks.

 

The IDEA project:

In the IDEA project, they are learning from Israeli experts how to improve psychosocial emergency care in Berlin hospitals in order to prevent post-traumatic stress disorder. The project, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Health, also includes workshops and conferences in which the institute is actively involved.
