Welcome on the website of the Institute for European Ethnomusicology!
The Institute - formerly known as Institute for Musical Folklore - is an independent research institution connected to the Institute for Music Education of the University of Cologne. This conjunction of institutions - unique in the German academic context – makes it possible to offer students a theoretical basis in Cultural Studies, European Ethnomusicology and Popular Music Studies complimentary to their studies in music education. BA and MA theses and subsequent PhD dissertations in these fields are encouraged and supported. The Institute issues the annual journal "ad marginem", and - in close collaboration with the Institute for Music Education - the book series "Musik-Kontexte-Perspektiven" (Allitera Publisher).
