Dear empirical researchers at the DHR,

Welcome to the Advisory Center for Empirical Research (bef)!

Research methodology is the backbone of all scientific research projects. A solid methodological approach is a prerequisite for high-quality science, regardless of the theoretical orientation or practical goal, and regardless of whether qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-methods strategies are used.

We also face challenges in teaching when it comes to conveying research methodology to students. Experience shows that students do not always find it easy to engage in and conduct empirical research on their own.

The Center for Empirical Research (bef) is happy to support you in your research project, regardless of your chosen approach (quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods). The bef is currently being developed into a center for research consulting to support researchers, particularly in the design of empirical study designs, and to promote networking within the DHR. Please feel free to contact us if you are planning a research project or seeking to exchange ideas with colleagues.

Our Philosophy

You are the expert on your research questions, so only you can decide on the final fit of research plans and variables, data collection methods, data analysis methods, and the “correct” interpretation of your data. We aim to advise you on an equal footing throughout the research process and support you in finding the “best” study design for you and your research question. We are also happy to assist you with (planning) data analysis (e.g., using SPSS, R, or MPlus).
