about GROW

At the NRW Research College GROW, eleven doctoral students* have been researching since February 2015 and until the end of 2018 on one of these four topics Main topics:

  • Social relations in old age
  • Quartier and Bürgerschaftliches Engagement
  • Supply landscapes
  • Technique and age

Our research projects are characterized by a high degree of interdisciplinarity and transdisciplinarity. They are created in a network of researchers from different scientific disciplines and in cooperation with partners from the field.

Professors* from three faculties have jointly developed GROW's research concept and supervise the doctoral projects in teams. GROW's spokesperson is Professor Dr. Susanne Zank; The doctoral students bring various perspectives to the Research College GROW, including sociologists, health economists, educators, psychologists, rehabilitation scientists and political scientists.

The exchange with the practice partners benefits the fellows in various phases of their doctorates. Practical experience is initially incorporated into the questions and the practical partners advise the doctoral candidates throughout the entire research process. Research results are communicated in practice and jointly translated into solutions to practice-relevant problems.
