Department Kunst und Musik (DKM)

Welcome to the Website of the Department of Art and Music!

The Department of Art and Music (DKM) is characterized by the close interdisciplinary cooperation between the two subjects. The cooperation in research and teaching focuses on the connection between the arts, media and education. The joint interest focuses on the question of how social transformation processes affect the arts and can be actively shaped by them - for example with regard to changing aesthetic educational processes, media and material artistic practices and the connection between music and migration. Therefore, a particular research interest is focused on questions of cultural and social diversity and inequality, participation and inclusion, as well as the contribution of the arts and aesthetic education to questions of sustainability. The DKM's research profile is characterized by a close connection between academic and artistic-practical research. The transfer to and from society is realized in numerous activities and institutional partnerships.

We offer five degree programs at the Department of Art and Music: Teacher training programs (Bachelor of Art, Master of Education) in Aesthetic Education, Art and Music, and study programs (Bachelor of Art, Master of Art) in Intermedia and Music Education. On the right, under the tab Study Programs, you will find further information on the respective programs, lecturers, current events and the student councils.

The Institute for European Ethnomusicology as a research institution is also part of the Department of Art and Music.
