The Research Centre develops projects within the framework of graduate funding, smaller projects of its own as well as long-term and larger third-party funded projects. This is done in part in cooperation with other institutions in North Rhine-Westphalia and beyond.
Research Interests

- Challenges in pedagogical fields of action and educational contexts
- Linguistic and cultural openness for multilingualism and intercultural practice
- Urban cohabitation
- Globalisation and migration
- Migration and Diversity in Public and Media Discourse
- Political Public Sphere and Participation of Migrants
- Migration and integration policy
- Violence, racism and multiple discrimination
- right-wing extremism
Teaching
As a research centre anchored in educational science, it attaches particular importance to teaching. It represents an important contribution to the university education of future teachers and educators.
Discourse
The exchange with experts from practice and science is implemented primarily through colloquia, workshops and conferences as well as participation in international exchange programmes (Erasmus, Socrates).
Publications
In addition to the research series "Intercultural Studies" (VS-Verlag), the Research Centre also publishes reports on its current work (Edition Der Andere Buchladen, Cologne) and on its current work at irregular intervals an Internet newsletter.
