We investigate the following research questions:

  • How do we generate expectancies about upcoming stimuli and how does this influence our perception and attention?
  • What happens during these processes in the human brain?
  • Is the generation of expectancies impaired in stroke patients suffering from spatial neglect and can this be improved with specific trainings?

We address these questions using behavioural experiments (response time measurements), computational modelling, functional neuroimaging, neurostimulation as well as neuropsychological assessments and lesion analyses in stroke patients.

Our research is conducted at the Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine (INM-3) at the Research Centre Jülich

and in collaboration with the Department of Neurology of the University of Cologne
